Not only does making your own face mask save you a trip to the drugstore or the salon; it helps ensure that you know what’s soaking into your skin!  Keep reading to discover the best 10-minute  kitchen facemasks for your skin’s needs, and how to make them, too!

Video Overview

Facials From Your Kitchen: Moisturizing Masks

Michigan’s winter dries out skin like no other; I would know.  If you live in a frigid state like me or tend to have dry skin anyways, these moisturizing masks are a lifehack for you!  To get rid of flakiness and get yourself glowing, just mix equal parts of avocado and coconut oil in a bowl. Be sure to mash your avocado in a bowl separately with a fork, that way it gets blended evenly.  You should only need about a tablespoon of each. Or, if you’re running short on time and don’t want the mess, just use a small amount of coconut oil instead!

Facials From Your Kitchen: Clarifying Masks

These simple clarifying masks work hard to draw out impurities and to prevent breakouts.  They’re perfect for skin that tends to be on the oily side or is exposed to a lot of pollution.  The first one I’d like to talk about is honey; yep, just honey.

I keep a small honey bear in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom for when my face needs clarifying.  Simply take about a tablespoon or so of organic wildflower honey, and smooth it onto your skin.  Leave it for approximately 10 minutes, then thoroughly wash it off with a touch of your favorite face wash.  You might be thinking ‘But it has sugar in it, how can it clarify?!’  A fine question indeed.   Honey actually has both soothing and antibacterial properties.  So, while it does have sugar, in the short time it is on your face, it actually calms the pores and disinfects the skin.

The second clarifying mask is nearly as simple; 1 tablespoon of honey mixed with a teaspoon of lemon.  Adding lemon to the mix can help fight oil and hyperpigmentation.

Masks for Combination Skin

If you’re looking for the powers of moisturizing and clarifying at once, try  1 tablespoon of greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey, and a dash of lemon.  Yogurt has lactic acid, which makes your skin turn over cells faster (for that sought-after glow) while also moisturizing with proteins.  Honey acts as our clarifier, and lemon is an astringent as well.

Wrap-Up

Before you splurge on expensive beauty products, take a look inside your kitchen first!   The concoctions you can make might be better than you think.
